St Mary's Pub Guide - Oxford Street Area

How to have a drink in the Oxford Street Ocean Village area.

The Oxford Street Area is fairly close to St Mary's and is served by ample parking areas, about a 10-15 minute walk it is probably as near as you will get to park your car to the Stadium.

Oxford Street itself is full of bars and restaurants and is usually trouble free for away supporters.

Perhaps the most popular bar is The Grapes an old victorian pub famed for the fact it was popular with the crew of the Titanic, and boy do they try to cash in on this.

A good selection of beer and rolls on match days, they also have Sky TV and this means that it gets very packed on a match day with crowds often spilling out on the street.

Perhaps the one down side to what is a decent pre match pub is the prices, they tend to be on the expensive side, although the pub does allow in Children.

THE GRAPES

Opposite the Grapes is the London Hotel, this is often quite quiet on a match day due to the fact that in the evening its a prominent gay bar so doesnt tend to attract the football crowd.

Oxford Street has a plethora of restaurants some of which like Poppadum Express and the White Star have a bar open to non diners, others like Pinnochios, Pizza Express and the Olive Tree have ouside table seating creating a very continental atmosphere on a warm day.

Radleys on the corner of Oxford Street offers both a restaurant and a bar but doesnt encourage football trade, likewise Dock Gate 4 in South Western House a very plush and expensive restaurant and bar that due to the price of drinks doesnt get too busy.

Round the corner on the Corner of Bernard street and Terminus Terrace is the Court Jester, again a combination of reasonable drinks and food has made this a very busy bar, they allow Children in the back bar but the only draw back being that they havent invested in Sky TV and in these days of lunchtime live matches thats a black mark to them.

Just up the road, well Canute Road to be precise is the Cork & Bottle, again ample public parking in Ocean Village this pub can get packed on a match day but being very large can usually deal with the crowds.

The Cork & Bottle.

Behind the Cork & Bottle Ocean Village is being re developed and has a few new restaurants etc open at the moment in truth they are pleasant to have a drink in in the summer with outside tables etc, but are not of the standard of the bars that used to be on the Quay, for football fans anyway.

On Marine Parade is what was formerly the Le Tissier Feet, recently renamed The Chapel Inn, a decent stop off on the walk to the ground, its an unpretencious Pub with some Saints memorabelia and plastic glasses, away fans are usually welcome providing they dont get too loud, and with it being on the main drag to the stadium its usually well policed, a nice place to stand in the warm weather outside and watch the fans troop to the ground, Sky Tv makes it a decent football pub.
