Reid hits out in wages row

Veteran midfielder Paul Reid has hit out at Swansea City in a row over unpaid wages.

The 35-year-old claims not to have been paid for February and is angry about the club's handling of the situation.

"I'm not happy about the situation," he told the Western Mail. "The wages are supposed to be paid at the end of the month but, because of the delay, I've had to get my overdraft extended.

"I understood we would be paid on Monday, and then Wednesday, but I'm still waiting.

"I'm not sure whether it's a deliberate lack of communication, but it wouldn't have been so bad had they explained that the wages would be late.

"The club should realise that we've all got mortgages and bills to pay."

Swans director Huw Jenkins has refuted allegations that the club doesn't have the funds to pay its staff, instead blaming the problem on a bank error.

Swansea City are facing the prospect of punishment from the Football League for breaching regulations on the use of loan players.

The Swans included six loan players in their 16-man squad against Wrexham in Saturday's Welsh derby at the Vetch.

A new rule brought in at the beginning of the season states that a club can name only five players in their squad for any given game.

Football League spokesman Ian Christon said an investigation is underway and that some form of punishment is a certainty.

Deducting points is one possible punishment, but Christon said a fine is the more likely outcome.

"We are asking the club for an explanation," Christon told BBC Sport.

"There is a possibility that they'll be some sort of hearing into this because it is a breach of regulation.

"Having said that, it's not a major breach of regulation, mainly because the sixth player didn't actually take the field of play."

That player was Craig Steins, who was an unused substitute.

The five loan players used by Swansea were Neil Cutler, Leon Hylton, Alan Tate, Leon Britton and Marc Richards.

Swansea director of football Brian Flynn refused to comment on the matter.

However, he did reveal that Leon Hylton has extended his loan period for another month.
