Trees Come Down

On that day we played Sheffield Wednesday whilst we take on the Forest this weekend, so what's the similarity then, well its in the teams themselves. Wednesday, Forest, Newcastle, Liverpool are all names that conjure up something big. You know a game against these guys is not just a game its an occasion 10,000 witnessed a 4-2 win against Jack Charlton's Wednesday, nearly double that will witness Saturday!

When we played Wednesday under Toshack it was very much the same as now, it was a yardstick of how far the Swans had come under Toshack. Likewise on Saturday, yeah you could say Forest are nowhere near the potent force they were but only a few months ago they were plying their trade 2 Leagues higher than the Jack Army and Saturday will be the acid test of the side, do they have what it takes.

If there's one thing I have learned in all my years as part of the Jack Army is that they love an occasion, there are times when something is that little bit special and Saturday is one of those occasions. You can feel it in the way the old guard mumble about big games gone past and you feel it as the young pups make fools of themselves on other boards.

This bar none is the biggest test of SCFC in the league for some 20 odd years. There will be those who say Hull and then Bury, both last day dramas, that only soap opera script writers could come up with, but with all due respect to them they are not and never will be Forest.

Its a name that conjures up many a dewy eyes amongst the football romantics and its the type of side that all Jacks want to see the side play week in week out.

Saturday will be a benchmark, there will be no kick and rush, two sides that have traditionally played football where it should be, on the ground. Someone once said if God had meant to play football in the sky he would have made the sky green.

White Rock was designed, built and hopefully filled for days like Saturday, The big man Clough would be delighted with the pitch in front of both teams on Saturday, he licked perfection. How odd it was that such a legend who was so meticulous was found wanting when he and his side arrived late for the first match at the Vetch under Toshack, perhaps he was still in the Gower as it was widely rumoured that BC loved to visit the Gower Coast, don't know if it was true but I suspect it was. BC knew a good thing when he saw one.

Shame he's not with us in person what better person to tell KJ what needs improving! Don't think he would have had Thorpe in the squad!

So for me Saturday is the next step of the development of SCFC and hopefully Forest fans will forgive the pups their sense of excitement on this one. They are not happy BECAUSE it is Forest, they are excited because it, IS, Forest. It could have been Wednesday again had things panned out differently but this game shows the pups what is around the corner should the club continue to develop both ON and OFF the pitch.

Forest of course having suffered financial tribulations and poor team management and of course lack of team confidence, and heres us thinking we owned the rights to all them. Its what we have suffered in one form or another for 20 odd years. Saturday sees the Jack Army peer over the wall to see if they can play with the big boys. I think they can.

Heres to a good game, heres to 3 points, heres to what's around the corner

Blessed Be
