Colchester United are the new leaders of League One after Richard Garcia's late brace gave them a 2-1 win over Port Vale. A huge crowd of over 4,300 at Layer Road had to wait until 16 minutes from time for Garcia to break the deadlock for The U's. Michael Husbands looked to have earned The Valiants a point with a penalty five minutes later, but Garcia proved Colchester's hero when he struck the winner three minutes from the end. Phil Parkinson's side claimed the summit mainly due to Southend United's goalless draw at Tranmere Brentford won the battle of the promotion contenders at Griffin Park, as Martin Allen's side claimed a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town in a match that saw a player on each side sent off. The Bees had Ricky Newman sent off after 17 minutes for violent conduct before they actually claimed the lead through Lloyd Owusu eight minutes later. The Terriers then lost goalkeeper Paul Rachubka to a red card for a professional foul just after the break. DJ Campbell then secured three valuable points with a second goal on 77 minutes. Barnsley moved into the play-off places after a 2-0 home success over Milton Keynes Dons, as Marc Richards (77) and Robert Hassell (79) claimed the win for The Tykes. Chesterfield dropped out of the top six after a 2-2 draw with Walsall at Saltergate. On-loan Mads Timm scored his first senior goal with The Saddlers on 33 minutes, but veteran hit-man Wayne Allison restored parity three minutes later. Grant Smith gave Walsall the lead five minutes after the break, but The Spireites earned a point through on-loan Kevan Hurst ten minutes from time. A late brace from Luke Beckett (84, 87) gave Oldham Athletic a 2-0 home win over Gillingham, while Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw at struggling Rotherham United. Nathan Tyson (34) gave Forest the lead, but new signing Paul Shaw made an immediate impact with a vital leveller four minutes from time. Swindon Town had four different players on the scoresheet in their 4-2 home win over Bournemouth. Jamie Cureton (37), Stefani Miglioranzi (52), Rory Fallon (79) and new signing Lee Peacock (90) all found the back of the net for the struggling Robins. A Dani Rodrigues strike (59) and a James Hayter penalty (68) proved not enough for The Cherries. A late Dean Windass strike gave Bradford City a 1-0 win over Yeovil Town at Huish Park. In the noon kick-off on Saturday, new Doncaster Rovers signing Graeme Lee scored late on in their 2-1 derby win at Scunthorpe United. Following a goalless first half at Glanford Park, The Iron took the lead through James Goodwin three minutes after the restart. Michael McIndoe levelled matters for Donny on 63 minutes and that allowed new man Lee to strike the winner with a minute remaining. The match ended in ill-tempered fashion, as Doncaster's James Coppinger and Scunthorpe's Steve Torpey were both given their marching orders in injury time by match referee Colin Webster. Finally, Bristol City remain three points above the relegation zone after a 1-1 draw at fellow strugglers Blackpool. John Murphy (5) gave The Seasiders the lead, but Steve Brooker (26) earned a point for Gary Johnson's side at Bloomfield Road. What to read next:Ex Saints player Adam Lallana will leave Brighton at the end of the season, but he does not want to retire from playing just yet, so could a return to St Mary's be on the cards for the man who was once a legend to Southampton supporters. Saints weathered an early storm and then got the settled down to a workmanlike performance to ensure that they don't go into second leg at St Mary's on Friday playing catch up. Most pundits are predicting a Saints V Leeds final at Wembley, but the Baggies will have something to say about that and our two victories over them in the regular season now count for nothing as we travel to the Hawthorns of the semi final first leg. A week ago Saints travelled to Leeds with their supporters lamenting how bad we had been in the previous three games, now after a comprehensive win at Elland Road the tide has turned, the message is simple, More of the same ! After selling out the 2,000 tickets for the away game at The Hawthorns in a matter of hours, Saints fans have also turned out in numbers for the home leg of the Play Off semi finals with only a few tickets available in hospitality left. Although he is only on loan from Newcastle United, Ryan Fraser has shown by example that he is as committed to the Southampton cause as anyone else in the Saints squad, now he has revealed what is on his wish list for the summer.
