Scotland: "Duffy's Goals Will Come"
Duffy's Goals Will Come |
Darryl Duffy was a player with his expectations placed against him this season after his goalscoring loan spell last season which almost propelled the Swans into the play off zone. A long, protracted transfer move in the summer eventually saw a quarter of a million pounds change hands to make the move permanent but in two league starts to date he has yet to find the net whilst his partner Jason Scotland has the honour of scoring the Swans only league goal this season to add to one that he got in the Carling Cup. Duffy himself admits that it was hard to see Lee Trundle leave the club so soon after he arrived, telling the Wales on Sunday a couple of weeks back "Lee did have a big part to play in me signing here - while everything was being sorted out we kept in touch and updated each other. "Liz, his girlfriend, and my fiancee had become close and Lee was the first person I told when the deal was finally done. "So it was disappointing to see him go, personally as well as professionally." But that is in the past now and Duffy will line up alongside Scotland at Walsall this weekend with his new strike partner backing him to score goals and soon as the Swans look to generate the rewards that their football to date has deserved. Speaking to the Evening Post, Scotland said "We were both a little disappointed with last week "Myself and Duffy are strikers and we are paid to score goals. Saturday has been playing on my mind because we didn't get three points. We had chances to score but didn't take them. The Swans beat Walsall 2-0 at the Liberty last week in the Carling Cup - Scotland grabbed the second in stoppage time - and it will be a much stronger side that takes them on at the Banks Stadium on Saturday. Neither Scotland or Duffy started that game but both were second half substitutes as Roberto looked for the goal that was to kill the Saddlers off. And whilst Scotland is confident that Duffy will soon be up and running, he is also happy with the start he has made despite missing a few chances against Forest. Scotland has had the fans take to him immediately - something not all previous strikers were afforded - which does ease the pressure somewhat. After a stunning spell in Scotland, there does appear to be evidence that backs the praise he received in the summer What are your thoughts? Share your views on the Message Board |
