"I'm Still Standing" Say Elton John Fans

Elton John played to over 25,000 people at the Liberty Stadium last night and praised the Swans in the process

There was scandalous scenes at the Liberty as people stood for lengths of time, were able to take drinks back to their seats and the Liberty saw, it’s best atmosphere yet as party fever hit the stadium.

In a show that lasted for more than two and a half hours alone from the main act of the evening, the Liberty showed that it can host top class entertainment and surely paved the way for further top name concerts to be held in Swansea.

But it was Elton’s references to the quality of the stadium and the football team that drew some of the biggest cheers of the night as he revealed his soft spot for the Swans having been Chairman of Watford who – in his own words – “Were always a season behind you” when we were taking our rise to the first division in the late 70s and early 80s.

And he ended the evening after a rendition of “Hymns and Arias” by telling the crowd what a fantastic stadium Swansea had to go with their “fantastic manager” no doubt a comment appreciated by the watching Swansea boss.  And with that Elton said that Swansea deserved to be in the Premiership, a comment which of course went down a storm.

And as the stadium emptied at the end of the evening it was the end of a great evening of entertainment – whether you are a fan of the Rocket Man or not – and may there be many more nights like it in years to come.

And of course that Premiership dream.... (!)
