Supporters Trusts Call For Calm

Representatives from both Supporters Trusts have called for calm ahead of the Welsh derby

Supporters Trusts at Swansea and Cardiff have called on their supporters to ensure that the upcoming derby fixture in the Carling Cup is remembered for the right reasons.

The first competitive meeting of note for almost ten years will take place at the Liberty Stadium on September 23 in a match to be televised live on Sky Sports 1.

And with the game heading towards a total sell out , the police have again moved to ensure that there is minimal chance of disruption off the pitch with the usual bubble arrangements in place.

And now representatives from both Trusts have called for fans to enjoy the occasion for all the right reasons.

Acting Chair of the Cardiff City Trust Paul Corkrey said "We are all aware of the emotion and intensity that surrounds this traditional derby match, and without that fervour the game would inevitably be a lot poorer.

However, it is the responsibility of us all, as supporters of each club, to ensure that such passion does not extend beyond the boundaries of acceptable behaviour."

While Phil Sumbler, Chairman of the Swans Trust added "There is no doubt that the eyes of the media will be firmly focused on us for our first meeting in ten years - let it be remembered as an occasion that displays the raw passion and sporting rivalry that exists in South Wales in its true light, and not for the wrong reasons.

Football has, thankfully, moved on from the behavioural problems linked to it in years past - it is now attracting a new, and more family oriented, generation of fans - let us all contribute to making this game a true Welsh sporting experience that will attract increasing numbers to support our football clubs."
