Roberto: The Break Cannot Come Quick Enough

Roberto Martinez says that the international break cannot come quick enough for his tired squad.

Swansea City bring to an end five weeks of hectic action at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday and Roberto knows that the two week break that will follow is just what his team needed.

The Swans next action after the weekend is the South Wales derby on April 5 at Ninian Park but before that they could do with the morale boost that a win at Hillsbrough would bring.

Back to back defeats in the league have left the Swans looking up at the play offs and the manager is all too aware that time is running out if they are to make the end of season play offs and the chance to make the Premier League next season.

Speaking in today's Western Mail, Roberto said “The players are looking tired and the break can’t come quickly enough for us

“We are starting to pay the price for the number of games we had in a short period of time.

“When you include the FA Cup replay, we had 11 games in 36 days. When you play the way we do, you suffer from that.

“Because of the way we play, the fixture congestion can affect us more than most teams. It’s very, very demanding and you need to be in top form physically.

“But I don’t want to give that as an excuse because, while it will affect the way we perform, we should be able to adapt.

“We did that last season and we know well enough how to be competitive when we aren’t at our best.

“The play-off picture is still the same, it doesn’t change. Obviously every game is important because of the amount of points on offer, but it’s important we regroup now.

“It’s vital we hit the ground running after the break because there is no margin of error anymore. Individually and as a team we need to get back to our best and put a run together.”
