Britton Targets 3rd Place For Swans

Leon Britton has targetted third place for the Swans with a win on Friday night

Victory over Derby County at the Liberty will move Swansea City into their highest league position since 1983 on Friday night and Britton wants to secure the victory that will achieve that.

Sixth place was the highest position the Swans achieved last season and it would be a big milestone to go beyond that on Friday even if it does prove to be for less than 24 hours.

But midfielder Britton knows it won't be an easy test despite Derby'[s seemingly poor form "That's a massive incentive for us," Britton told the Evening Post

"To go third in the table would be a huge boost to everyone and something we want to try to achieve.

"Derby have not had the best of times. The new manager has come in and things probably haven't gone as well as they would have liked. But they're still getting crowds of 25,000 to 30,000, which shows the size of the club.

"They've been in the Premier League and have a great history behind them and they've still got some very good players

"With the Cardiff game there was a lot of build-up and a lot of hype, so it's nice to let everything settle down so we can go into the next game with clear heads," said Britton.

"Everyone was buzzing in training for a few days with the result and the performance against Cardiff because we always said we wanted to beat our local rivals, and we did that.

"But that's out of our minds now. That's one game out of 46, and Derby is the next one

"In the summer there was a big turnaround in staff and a couple of players left so it was always going to take the new manager a while to get his ideas across," said Britton

"We've got a great spirit among the players and we've always had the belief that we've got a very strong squad here.

"We've beaten West Brom away and a couple of other teams around the play-offs — that shows there's nothing to be scared of in this league."
