Dorus Targets 10-12 More Points

Dorus De Vries believes the Swans need 10-12 more points to secure their play off place

The Swansea City goalkeeper was within 13 minutes of equalling the club record for clean sheets in a season at QPR on Saturday but he will get another chance at Blackpool on Tuesday with the Swans hopes of automatic promotion pretty much ended.

Now all concentration is ensuring that a place in the top six is the minimum from the season's exploits and De Vries believes that the points target he has set will be enough to ensure the season extends beyond the first weekend in May.

He told the Western Mail “I think the focus for us was on the play-offs anyway

“For us it’s about getting into the top six at the end of the season.

“If teams above us drop points from now on, great, but it’s about the play-offs for us.

“We’ve probably dropped two points at QPR when you look at the good chances we had on the counter in the first half, going ahead and then conceding a poor goal.

“But we’re still eight points clear above seventh so we know we’re looking at something between 10 and 12 points from now until the end of the season to do it.

“That’s the challenge and we have a big game against Blackpool who will be looking at the game as a six-pointer because they will want to get into the top six too.

“It’s a big and busy period for us – but, if we can start picking up some good results, starting with Blackpool, the quicker we can make sure we’re in those play-offs.”
