A Rough Guide To Gillingham

All you need to know for the last away trip of the season.

The Gills as they are known, play at the KRBS Priestfield Stadium which has a capacity of 11,582 all seated.

The ground consists of three sides of modern stands all covered with the away end being a large temporary structure and guess what this is the away end and it doesnt have a roof.

Getting There.

By road its fairly simple and a journey of appoximately 120 miles, take the M3 to its junction with the M25 and then take this motorway Eastwards signposted Gatwick. Stay on the m25 until just after Clackets lane services and then take the M26 and follow this on to the M20. At Junction 6 exit and follow signs to Gillingham, Chatham & Rochester, from there its a fairly straight road into Chatham and Gillingham is right next door, these three towns are known as the medway towns and are basically all in together.

There is limted street parking around the stadium so you may have to go further afield, however there are car parks next to thestation and in the town centre and these are reasonably priced so may be the best option

By Train its fairly simple, go to Waterloo then take the footbridge to Waterloo East, from there you can take a train directly to Gillingham that takes around 60 minutes and there are two an hour. A tip is to buy a One day capital card which will allow you to travel to the end of Zone 6 and then buy a return from this station to Gillingham (You can do this at waterloo)

One thing to note is that this line goes through Charlton and guess who they have at home Leeds United, so although we are going a little too early on the way out to bump into any trouble, if leeds have been beaten bear that in mind when you come back through.

You can also go to Gillingham via Victoria, trains are quicker and more frequent, but there is nothing really to gain when you take into account travelling to Victoria from Waterloo.

Gillingham Station is only a five minute walk from the ground and visible from the station.

The Ground

As mentioned earlier Saints are housed in a large temporary structure open to the elements, so its great when its sunny but terrible if it rais, although if it does they sometimes issue ponchos.

The facilities are pretty good though as they appear to be left from the previous permanent structure at that end of the ground.

Drinking Etc

Being so close to the Railway Station and town centre there are a number of pubs and Gillingham have a reputation as a friendly bunch, so all can usually be visited.

Near the ground,The Livingstone Arms is only 100 metres from the away turnstiles and is the usual pub of choice for away fans, however with 2,500 Saints fans in the vicinity we arent all going to be able to fit in there.
