Saints Linked With Buttner Again

According to latest transfer rumour, Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in Manchester United's Alexander Buttner.

Of course there is a long way to go before the transfer window opens again, but its interesting to note that someone is trying to link us with a a player who can play left back, with Luke Shaw reportably going to be the subject of a bidding war in the summer, although strangely none of the big guns seemed interested in trying to prise him away in January, it is logical that Buttner's name should come up as a target for Saints.

This indicates that the source of the story is probably coming from someone close to United, if the Red Devils go for Shaw, then perhaps a cash plus player deal will interest Saints more than just a straight cash offer that will then leave us having to source a replacement for Shaw with selling clubs knowing we have a big wad in our pocket and therefore upping the price.

Given that Saints almost signed Buttner back in the summer of 2012, the deal falling through due to a last minute hitch, its fair to assume that we are well aware of his talents, Pochettino wasn't the manager then, but the transfer policy was mainly implemented by a committee with Les Reed on it , if Reed is still at the club in the summer, this rumour could have legs.

What this does show though is how despite no movement possible until the start of June, how agents either with or without the blessing of managers are pro active in putting ideas in the heads of prospective buyers, I would expect this rumour to have come from someone in the Buttner camp, his time at United has somewhat halted his career, when we were trying to sign him he was a player on the up and had just been selected in the preliminary Holland squad for Euro 2012, although he didnt get a cap, he was expected to kick on in 2012/13 and become a full International, at Old Trafford he has barely played in the League, 5 times in his first season and only 3 this, his career has stalled and I suspect this is the first steps from his agent of trying to kick start it.
