Leon - It's A Relegation Battle

It does seem that the weekend defeat to West Brom has woken the squad up with an overriding acceptance that the performance was simply not good enough and that things have to improve.

Of course it would be difficult to argue otherwise after the way in which the Swans seemingly surrendered to a spirited West Brom side conceding two poor goals to undo the good work of the first half and ultimately leaving them completely in the relegation mix after two games that had been highlighted as games of a winnable nature for the Swans.

Frustratingly the Swans had led in both those games but ended up paying the price for sloppy play and being unable to cope with a change of tactics shown by both West Brom and Crystal Palace that proved to be our undoing.

With nine games left in the season the Swans find themselves look for what is probably likely to be seven points or more to avoid the drop back to the Championship although many pundits are predicting that it could be less than 35 points needed this season to avoid being in the bottom three come May.

"Losing on Saturday makes it harder for us as it was to a direct rival,” said Britton.

"We played well in the first half but after half-time we did not match their desire and effort. We were a completely different side in the second half.

"It means we are very much part of the relegation battle and it’s up to us to get out of it.

"Over the last few years we have had nothing but success at this football club, but now we have a different challenge on our hands.

"It’s a fight for survival and we have to get the right results to ensure we move out of contention to go down.”

The Swans fate remains in their hands at this point in time although two tough away trips to Everton and Arsenal are the next two hurdles that they will need to overcome but with home games scheduled against Norwich, Aston Villa and Southampton it is possibly those games that will dictate our fate more than the next two.

There is without a doubt the quality in the squad to stay in the division and on our day we could win any of the nine remaining games but it is time - as has been said - to transfer that quality into performances on the pitch and produce the results that we do desperately need
