Letting Shelvey Go Would Be Madness

This week's rumour is linking Jonjo Shelvey with a move away from the Liberty Stadium to Crystal Palace which I have to say made me chuckle and I would assume (hope) that it is something that the club would not entertain in a summer that is seeing many depart the Swans.

So far we have lost MIchu and Pablo and it would seem that we are expecting Ben Davies and Michel Vorm to that list very shortly. In all four of those instances I can understand why it happened but it would take much convincing for me to understand it if we did sell Shelvey at any point.

If you look at Michu then he hasn't wanted to be here since Laudrup went - his body language at the end of last season showed that very clearly so it was no real surprise to see him leave. Personally I would have liked to have kept Pablo but he was another that seemingly wanted away although I thought we had a role for him this time around.

Ben's head was rumoured to have been turned the moment that Spurs starting showing an interest in securing his services and the writing was on the wall for Vorm the moment that Lucasz Fabianski put pen to paper on his contract at the Swans.

All these kind of make sense but to lose Shelvey would be madness. As far as we know he doesn't want to move and I cannot imagine that interest from Crystal Palace would turn his head to the level that he would be pleading with us to show him the exit door. Add to that the fact that he is a goal scoring midfielder it just would make no sense whatsoever to even consider doing business at the moment.

I don't believe this to be any more than lazy paper talk though at the moment but it just shows the stories that can surface from nowhere at times during a transfer window and there are still 40 days to go as I was told by Sky Sports News this morning.

What we need at the moment though is to be linked with players coming into the club, I don't believe again for a minute that we are sat back doing nothing we are doing it with a stealth mentality which I think is absolutely the best way to do it.

Of course that does not mean that there is not press speculation linking us with players - Moreno, Saviola and Besic are three that have surfaced in recent weeks but we are definitely a club that generally keeps things under wraps until it happens and I am not sure I would want that to change.

But a simple "Shelvey is not for sale" is definitely the way forward.
