City Go Down To Last Gasp Winner
Bayern Munich scored a 90th-minute goal to beat City 1-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday. Joe Hart made some crucial saves to keep City in the game until Boateng struck. His saves from Muller and Mario Gotze, in particular, were special.
City started the game with a steely determination. Dzeko tested Manuel Neuer after a good spell of possession for the visitors.
City, with suspended coach Manuel Pellegrini in the stands and his assistant Ruben Cousillas alone on the bench, successfully closed down space to keep Bayern at bay outside the penalty area.
David Alaba tried his luck twice from long range but again Hart was on hand to rescue his team.
City tightened up after the interval, looking most at threat when Hart misjudged Rafinha’s cross and had to scramble back to keep out Juan Bernat’s follow-up effort.
Bayern claimed a penalty when a loose ball struck Fernandinho but they seemed to be running out of ideas, having failed to take any of their first-half chances.
City should have then taken the lead when Silva headed wide from Navas’ pin-point cross.
City then a decent shout for a penalty when Mehdi Benatia appeared to bring down Silva but the ref waved play on.
In the final minute disaster then struck as Boateng caught the ball sweetly on the volley to beat Hart from the left edge of the penalty area.
