Saints Drop To 4th But Its Been A Good Weekend So Far

Saints have dropped to 4th as the first Sunday game is completed, but the weekend was still pretty good for Saints overall.

West Hamel have leapfrogged both Saints and Manchester United with a 3-1 win over Swansea City, but the weekend was still pretty kind to Saints overall.

Saints fans will be disappointed to see their team drop to fourth place this afternoon, but they can take consolation from the fact that the results so far have been kind to them.

Even West Ham's victory had a silver lining in that it meant Swansea stayed four points behind them, although out of the three results possible at Upton Park this was the least preferred, it still had some benefit to Saints.

On top of the table Chelsea lost at Newcastle although in fairness we would have preferred to see the Toon drop points as they now lie only 3 points adrift of us.

Manchester City won, but again this was probably better for us than Everton taking three points, realistically we need the Toffee's to drop points as we are more likely to be battling for places with them come the end of the season than City.

Arsenal's defeat at Stoke was most welcome as it means they are still 3 points behind us, unexpected but welcome.

Then we are down to the big clubs sat in mid table, Liverpool looked odds on to beat Sunderland at Anfield, however a scoreless draw means Liverpool are still 5 points behind us, as are Spurs who drew at home with Palace.

Then we have the aforementioned Everton in 11th on 18 points.

So although of course the weekend could have been better, overall its been good and we are now nicely placed to go into an easier run of games after the visit of United.

But it is vital we get something from Monday night's game, if we don't then we will drop to 5th, that will still be a good start to the season, but the psychological benefit of still being in the top four would be immense so hopefully the crowd at St Mary's will get behind the injury hit side and make sure we have another of those great nights we have enjoyed many times in the past.
