Saints Chasing Chelsea Starlet
Saints are rumoured to be interested in Chelsea's Patrick Bamford currently on loan at Middlesbrough.
Ronald Koeman is being linked with signing Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford currently on loan at Middlesbrough and recently voted Championship Player Of The Year.
However Bamford has made no secret of the fact that he hopes that this seasons loan spell at the riverside will be the springboard to his getting into the first team at Stamford Bridge.
But if he is realistic Bamford who will turn 22 in September is going to find it very hard to get into the Chelsea squad and at the age he is he will need to be looking elsewhere, in some respects he has followed a similar pattern as harry Kane in that although he started his career at Nottingham Forest before joining Chelsea 3 years ago for an initial £1.5 million, since then he has been mainly loaned out to lower division clubs with two spells at MK Dons, another at Derby County and now Middlesbrough.
So as he passes his 22nd birthday he should be looking to try his hand in the Premie League and there looks little chance of that at Chelsea.
Southampton are interested in a permanent move for Bamford in the summer, but if Chelsea prefer to hedge their bets a little and see how he gets on in the Premier league first before deciding if he has a Chelsea future then Ronald Koeman is willing to go for a loan deal.
Obviously if Middlesbrough were to gain promotion to the Premier that might be a stumbling block to Saints as they would obviously want to try and keep him and would be in pole position because of his time there this season and also the fact that the town is a lot closer to his family home in Grantham.
