Saints Now Need To Turn The Attention To The Centre Of Defence
Things will start to move fast as we move into July and Saints need to look to make a good central defensive signing.
All focus in the first month of the transfer window seems to have been on replacing Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin however with these deals looking to happen once the July 1st yearly bonuses date has passed, Saints will themselves be needing to move fast to not only secure Schneiderlins replacement but presumably signing a new central defender.
That's is looking like it won't be Toby Alderweireld although the mumblings in the press about him being about to join Spurs might be no more than the Tottenham media machine going into overdrive.
But it is an important position for Saints to fill, being blunt Yoshida did well in some games but he is not up to the job full time being cover at best, there is also Florin Gardos and he may come through this year fitter and ready to step up to the plate, however we really do need to make another signing and a quality one at that.
For the past two summers we have signed two key central defenders but it sadly looks like we will need to make it a hat trick this summer and pull another gem out of the bag.
There have been surprisingly few names touted for the job unlike our midfield where every man and his dog has been linked. Saints will prefer it this way leaving them to quietly get on with their job.
Hopefully they will tie up any potential signing swiftly with the first competitive game being only four weeks away, it is crucial that we get out of the blocks early.
