Koeman Confirms FC Twente Enquiry As Ryan Bertrand May Miss Start Of The Season
Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Ryan Betrand is set to miss the start of the Premier league season after minor surgery on his knee
Bertrand looks set to be out for around 5-6 weeks according to Ronald Koeman speaking to the Daily Echo after confirming that the left back has had minor surgery on both knees.
Although this is a blow the club will be confident that Matt Targett will be a more than able deputy as he proved on more than one occasion last season in both the Premier League and cups.
But the manager is concerned about a lack of numbers and versatility in the back four hence the club's interest in FC Twente's Cuco Martina. and Koeman confirmed that the deal is near completion.
"We are interested in the player and we like to sign the player,” said Koeman.
"It’s because Ryan Bertrand had a small surgery ten days ago in both knees and he will be out for the next coming weeks and totally the number of defenders we have is too small, we need more competition, and that player of FC Twente, Martina, is available in three of the four positions in the defence and that gives us more players, more defenders to play a tough season.”
Good news that Saints are looking to build not just a strong starting XI but players who can add depth to the squad and provide competition.
