Could Chelsea Play Two Up Front?

The Swans open their Premier League campaign against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next weekend with Jose Mourinho admitting that his side could play two up front at some point breaking away from his traditional one up top tactic.

Mourinho has won three Premier League titles with Chelsea using what he believes is a tried and tested formation but having secured the signature of Radamel Falcao, Mourinho admits that he could make a change this time around.

Chelsea have signed the player who they courted a few years ago this summer after his time at Manchester United last season where he failed to make any real impression and Jose is keen to get him into his side which could mean he tries a new formation this season starting with us on Saturday.

"I like him a lot as a player,” said Mourinho. "I think the team plays very well with a striker of his quality. He’s not a just guy who can score a goal, that is always a threat, he contributes a lot to the quality of the game.

"Against Barcelona Falcao was in and certainly the team was direct, it was objective, he was holding the ball very well. The team was closing the lines and playing in the opposition half. I’m very happy with this first week.

"Don’t forget Remy, I’m really happy with him. Against Barcelona in the last 20 minutes we played Remy and Falcao and they did very well. Not just to bring the team forward but with one less player in midfield to close the spaces and control the space in front. We are growing step by step and yes, we can play with two."

There are reports that Diego Costa could miss next weekend's season opener which could increase the chances of Chelsea playing with two strikers as mentioned by their manager. A fit Costa will surely mean just the one up front certainly at the start of the game with the midfield feeding him as they proved so successful at last season.

Interesting times and brilliant to have football back and matters to discuss.
