Monk - We Should Have Put The Game To Bed

Garry Monk was speaking the words that most of us were thinking after the Swans 1-1 draw with Sunderland when he declared that we had the chances to win the game which I am not sure that anybody could disagree with.

The Swans continued their unbeaten start to the season thanks to the 1-1 draw which was earned with Bafetimbi Gomis scoring his third goal in as many games but there were chances to score again and there was some inspired goalkeeping from Pantillimon which kept the home side in it.

Five points in three games is an excellent return and three points more than we got from the corresponding three fixtures last time around and that should be what we take forward although it is frustrating not to have finished the game off when we had the chances.

Had Ayew's header been two inches to the left the Swans would have been two goals up and I believe out of sight so I definitely agree with Garry when he says there are plenty of positives to work with on a frustrating afternoon.

"After the first 30 minutes, we got control of the game and got a good goal before half-time" said Monk.

"The intention was to put the game to bed after needing to be patient in the first half.

"We sustained that control in the second half, and it was dominance. We had chance after chance and should have put the game to bed, had it not been for some unbelievable goalkeeping.

"Then we made that individual mistake that led to the goal.

"But we’ve had a very good start to the season, and there are plenty of positives to look at.

"Unfortunately we didn’t get the three points today that we probably should have had.”
