The Day Portsmouth Celebrated A Southampton Goal
Lovely piece by Mark Sanderson who is about to publish a book on the life of Southampton FC FA Cup Final legend Bobby Stokes.
Mark Sanderson is soon to publish a book all about Bobby Stokes, this is perhaps long overdue, after all Bobby is still the only man to score a winning goal for Saints in a Cup Final and as time goes by its only fitting that he does not just become a name in the history books for a generation of supporters born after that great day on 1st May 1976.
Bobby sadly left us over 20 years ago but many Saints supporters both young & old will enjoy reading about a remarkable career, that saw Bobby play 238 games for the club after making his debut back in 1969 and scoring 55 goals.
Ironically though he would barely play in the season after the cup final win and would score only one more goal for the club before going to play in the USA in March 1977 and then joining Portsmouth in August 1977 where his career in League football would peter out after 11 games and 2 goals before he had reached the age of 28.

Southampton At Leicester The DebacleThe big question is how can a side that was so tight at the back, so clinical up front and who could pass the ball around almost with their eyes closed, become the disorganised rabble that they were at the Leicester City this evening.
