Player Review 2015/16 ! Ryan Bertrand

The only disappointment of Ryan Bertrand's season for Saints was that injury prevented him taking part in it in the Premier League till 26th September.

Perhaps if Ryan Bertrand had been fit from the very start of the season it could have been even better than it was, he didn't make an appearance till the Swansea home game at the end of September and by then he had missed six games, a spell that had yielded only six points and had seen a transitional and inexperienced back four concede 8 goals and score only four, the big question is whether Bertrand could have made a difference in those games and turned the odd draw into a win or defeat into a draw, given the errors in that back four at the time the answer is yes !

It is no reflection on Matt Targett who tried his best, but it should be remembered that he was an inexperienced youngster who was given little help in his task.

But Bertrand came back and the team immediately went on a six game unbeaten run, what he added in both defence and attack was a big difference to the way the team played and his pace enabled us to not only break quickly but cover in defence.

So another great season for Ryan Bertrand who after his return did not miss a Premier League game and he has enhanced his England prospects in doing so.

I would say that he is the best English left back in the Premier League this season and deserves to be first choice for England, dare i say it Danny Rose would not be considered if he didn't play for a fashionable club as he is not the player Bertrand is.

So for Ryan Bertrand 8.5 -9 out of 10 a player who has blossomed at Southampton FC and hopefully will continue to do so for a few more years to come.
