Player Review 2015/16 ! Charlie Austin

What a debut for Charlie Austin up at Old Trafford, however it turned out to be a false dawn as injury wrecked most of the rest of his season.

No Saints fan up at Old Trafford will forget the magic of Charlie Austin's dream debut for the club as he came off the bench to score the late winner and drive the travelling support wild.

One of my highlights of the season !

But then it went a little wrong and comparisons could be drawn with aother famous Charlie who signed for Saints, Charlie George who had the same injury issues when he joined the club.

Back in 2016 though and not 1979, Charlie managed only two starts and another four games off the bench after that debut, indeed he got injured in the warm up in one game and as he had been named as sub had to sit on the bench even though there was no chance of him getting on.

His signing showed a statement of intent by Saints, that they had ambition and were willing to bring in top players and Saints fans hoped and still do hope that next season Charlie will be their darling.

I said at the time of his signing that he could be the catalyst for a late run into Europe, that ddn't quite prove to be the case, but the team showed they could do it without him, but if did leave that question unanswered that if he had been fit more often could he have turned the odd game into a win and in doing so have propelled us into the Champions League positions.
Saints have plenty of attacking options, hopefully a fit Charlie Austin next season will keep us moving forward.

There is absolutely no way to dress this up other than this was a game that for a long period we controlled and then we collapsed into a disorganised rabble, to throw the game away in 15 second half minutes.

Southampton At Middlesbrough The Preview
Saints have taken just 3 points from their last 5 games in the Championship, Boro themselves are struggling and are on a poor run that has seen them drop out of the automatic promotions spots. Can Tonda turn the tide for Southampton.

According to sources in Germany, the loan move of goalkeeper Daniel Peretz from parent club Bayern Munich to Saints, has been halted due to issues !
Southampton V Millwall The Verdict
Tonda Eckert rang the changes for this game, but it made little difference as the key 3 man central defence remained unchanged, in the end a draw was a fair result, but of not much help for Saints.

Southampton V Millwall The Preview
Saints start the year with a home game against the team who inflicted the first defeat of Tonda Eckert's tenure as manager, we need to show that we have learned the lessons from that game and others.
Southampton Set to Take Keeper On Loan
Earlier this season it was reported that Saints were looking at Bayern Munich keeper Daniel Peretz, currently on loan at HSV Hamburg. Now these rumours are re surfacing, but is Perez really an upgrade on Gavin Bazunu.
Two Key Areas That Southampton Need To Sort Out In The Transfer Window
Saints supporters seem to have differing opinions about where the team needs strengthening, but for me there are just the two key areas that need to be dealt with urgently.
