Swansea 2 West Brom 1 - Swans End With A Win

Like it was ever in doubt, the Swans ended the Premier League season in 15th place thanks to goals from Jordan Ayew and Fernando Llorente as they came from behind to beat West Brom at the Liberty to earn a cool extra £3.6m in the process.

The final league table for the 2016/17 season will show that we avoided relegation by seven points and three places but the reality is this was a season where for the most part our six year tenure in the Premier League looked as if it may have been up.

A remarkable turnaround in form saw the Swans earn 29 points in the second half of the season and 13 from the last 15 available which tells you much about how Paul Clement has turned this side from a bunch heading from relegation to a side that is playing with confidence and gives us optimism for next season.

And the fact that we came from a goal behind tells you much about how things have turned around and it contributed to what was a bit of a party atmosphere at the Liberty for large parts of the afternoon.

Llorente set up Ayew for the Swans first and Narsingh set up Llorente for what turned out to be the winner as the sun shone on the Liberty in a way that it didn't shine on our football for large parts of the season.

West Brom had taken the lead during the first half when Kristoffer Nordfeldt - deputising for Fabianski - flapped at a corner to gift a free header to open the scoring.

West Brom may have only picked up 5 points from the previous 11 games but they were certainly not giving us an easy ride and some feisty challenges at times made for an entertaining encounter rather than a mundane meaningless clash which many games at this stage of the season can turn into.

The Swans weren't testing Ben Foster in the Baggies goal that much but there was little doubt in my mind that we were the better side on the afternoon and the two lat goals proved that as well as swelling the coffers at the Liberty.

We have to ensure from here that we return a similar amount of points in the first half of next season to make sure we are not in the trouble we were this time around but well done to all concerned for how we ended the season.
