Saints Want Big Money For Sam Gallagher
Saints have supposedly named their price to a number of Championship clubs chasing Sam Gallagher this summer.
It is being reported that Saints will look to start the bidding for Sam Gallagher at £7 million pounds with several of the big Championship clubs including Aston Villa, Cardiff & Wolves supposedly interested.
Gallagher who after an aborted loan spell at MK Dons in 2015/16 which saw him fail to score and even to get off the bench in the latter stages of a move that was cut short by mutual consent in the January transfer window, has revived his career with this season being spent at Blackburn Rovers.
He couldn't save them from relegation but he showed he can score goals hitting 11 in 35 starts plus another 8 as sub. However he only scored once in his final 15 games for Rovers, suggesting that he has a little bit more to learn.
But he would appear no nearer a return to the Saints first team squad, although some of those blocking his progress this season might move on, the key for Gallagher will be who is in charge at St Mary's.
If Claude Puel stays then he does not fit the Frenchman's playing style which does not suit Gallaghers more traditional centre forward style of play, however if Puel goes then he might stand a chance of pushing his way into the reckoning.
The likelihood though is that if Saints cannot get the price they want for him that he will again go out on loan, he is clearly not quite yet the finished article, it is now three years since his last appearance in a Saints shirt and turning 22 shortly after the start of next season his career is clearly at a crossroads, he certainly has it at Championship level but can he span the gulf between that league and the Premier League.
