Garry Monk Immediately Linked With Saints After Resignation From Leeds United

Es Saints player Garry Monk has surprisingly resigned from his position as Leeds United manager leading to speculation that he has another job lined up.

With Leeds United's new owner Andrea Radrizzani only completing his takeover of the club two days ago it was widely expected that Garry Monk would accept another 12 month option on his contract and begin talks for a longer term deal as Leeds confirmed in an official statement.

"We are shocked and disappointed by Garry's decision but his resignation has been reluctantly accepted by chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

"Andrea made it clear to the media yesterday that his intention was to exercise the club's option to extended the manager's contract for another 12 months and immediately begin negotiations for a longer-term deal."

This has lead to speculation that Monk already has been sounded out by another club and Southampton are one of those being linked.

Monk spent 8 years as a Saints player before joining Swansea City in 2004, although during that time he only started 9 Premier league games for the club plus another 2 as sub adding a couple of cup appearances to make it an unlucky 13 before joining Swansea then in League 2 to begin a career in South Wales that would see him play in all four divisions and become manager.

His stock has risen as a manager since leading to the link of a return to St Mary's this time in charge of the team.

This is obvious speculation at present, but with the silence from St Mary's deafening about Claude Puel's future it is easy to see why so many in the media will put two and two together on this one.
