It must be something about St Mary's as the three Ex Saints managers of the Liebherr era currently out of work are all linked with top jobs.
Claude Puel might not have been popular with Saints supporters, but it seems like his efforts at St Mary's in steering the club to 8th and a cup final have seen his stock rise on the continent, in the summer he was linked to Saint Etienne and now he is linked with another former Euro giant.
After René Weiler, resigned on Monday from Belgium club Anderlecht, Puel has apparently been approached as his successor according to media reports in the Lowland country.
Reportably Anderlecht also approached Puel in the summer of 2016 after he had left Nice, but the lure of the Premier League meant that he chose Saints rather than Brussels.
Meanwhile up in the Midlands the departure of another former Saints manager Harry Redknapp has seen two other occupants of the St Mary's hot seat linked with replacing him.
Nigel Adkins and Alan Pardew both started the week at 14/1 to take over at St Andrews but those odds have shortened in the last 24 hours with some bookies having Adkins at 4/1 and Pardew at 8/1.
Adkins is second favourite for the job behind Steve Cotterill, but there is a feeling that Cotterill having been assistant to Redknapp is part of the problem not the solution and therefore Adkins could well be the next manager although Gus Poyet is sitting just behind.
But the Saints connections on the list of candidates do not end there, Dave Jones is at 25/1 although his only job in the last four years has been a disastrous four month spell at the club which saw him sacked just before the club crashed out of the Football League.
Kevin Phillips, Uwe Rosler, Kevin Bond, Paul Tisdale have all also spent time at Southampton as players and in Bond's case also as assistant manager and are rated outsiders by the bookies.
