Saints Duo Free To Negotiate St Mary's Exit
Saints are said to be willing to let two of their players speak to other clubs after not offering them contract extensions.
It will be no surprise to Saints fans that Saints are happy to let Florin Gardos leave St Mary's in the summer, the centre back has only played one first team game in three years due to a combination of injury and being out of favour with various managers.
In fairness to Gardos the first half season with Saints under Ronald Koeman saw him put in a number of decent displays as deputy to Jose Fonte and Toby Alderweireld and he let no one down, however after being dropped by Koeman after being substituted before the half hour mark in a dour defeat at West Brom he never played again in the Premier League, injury then kept him out for a season, but any hopes he had of getting back under Mauricio Pellegrino were soon dashed and he was allowed to go on loan for the rest of this season.
Jeremy Pied was injured early last season and missed all but the last three games, he was always seen as only back up to Cedric Soares and therefore his chances have always been limited even this season when he has only played two Premier League games plus a start against Wolves and a sub appearance against Watford in the cups.
However as a free transfer to rejoin his old mentor Claude Puel, Pied has been a cheap gamble that although not coming up trumps has plugged the gap a few times.
We may yet see Pied again this season although it seems Saints will not offer him a new deal and that being the case both he and Gardos are now free to negotiate with other clubs for next season although both have played relatively minor roles in their time at St Mary's but neither let the club down and Saints fans should wish them well for the future.
