Transport Chaos For Sunday's Game Against Chelsea
There is likely to be major transport delays in the Southampton area for the game against Chelsea on both the railway network and also the roads.
There are no trains into Southampton Central station on Sunday from any direction with lines shut between Eastleigh to Brockenhurst and Eastleigh to Fareham as well as Romsey to Southampton Central.
That means replacement bus services into Central Station on all these routes adding 20-30 minutes to the usual journey time not to take into account the increased traffic into the City due to the game taking place.
With Chelsea the opponents a significant number of their fans will come in by rail from the London direction so a greater number than usual would use the trains.
In simple terms if you were planning to go to the game by train but have another option I would advise taking it or try to arrive earlier and leave later than you normally would to avoid peak hours congestion directly before and after the game.
To make matters worse if you are coming into the City from the West then the closure of Millbrook Roundabout will add to the usual congestion on Millbrook Road West going into and out of the City due to diversions in place to get Container lorries etc into the Docks.
Whatever the reasons it is looking like being more chaotic than normal on Sunday especially for those travelling by train.
