Hojbjerg Transfer Rumours Will Fuel New Contract Talks

The latest media rumour is that Pierre Emile Hojbjerg is the number one transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, but who makes up these rumours and do they have any foundation.

A few months ago Pierre Emile Hojbjerg along with James Ward Prowse and Nathan Redmond were all subject to criticism from a section of the Saints support with the "These Saints supporters" type headlines highlighting social media comments suggesting that they were not of the standard required.

A few months later and all three have disproved some of their doubters, but this in turn leads to more rumour mongering about where they will be next season.

Latest rumour is that Spurs have made Pierre Emile Hojbjerg their number one target with media outlets suggesting the Danish International has turned down a new contract at the club.

This has been fuelled by the fact that yes he hasn't signed a new contract, but that he had reportably told the club that he wanted to wait till the club were safe before he put pen to paper.

That was a fair enough method of thinking and recently when the club congratulated the player on twitter for reaching a milestone number of games for the club, Hojbjerg himself replied with a message saying "here's to the next 125" or words to that effect.

That was not the words of someone who had turned down contract offers.

The truth is in all contract negotiations there is an element of give and take and the first deal on the table is rarely the one signed.

It is about getting the best deal for both parties and Hojbjerg preferring to wait till we are safe before committing is all part of that process, now that Saints have the safety line in sight it is probably natural that talks are going to start up again, so the fact that these rumours are appearing suggest an agent at work somewhere.

Spurs are hardly likely to leak their own transfer targets to the media, so it is likely to be emitting from Hojbjerg's agent and a good rumour linking his client with a move to a so called big club and the North London Soccer Chickens certainly like to think they are that, will do his client's chances of getting more money in a new deal a power of good.

In any negotiation you have to have leverage and Spurs rumoured interest will disturb Saints supporters and in doing that it will perhaps force the club to act swiftly to placate the fanbase.

So I would take these rumours with a pinch of salt, I think they are more than likely to be about contract haggling than Spurs actually wanting Hojbjerg, After all the Special One is surely likely to want to sign some bigger names than our man and preferably clients of his great friend super agent Jorge Mendes.
