Saints Leading The Race To Sign Central Defender

The transfer window is nearing and the speculation is mounting and according to the latest reports we are in pole position to sign a central defender from France.

I have to say from the start as I do most times when the transfer window is not open, that many players clubs are linked with are no more than agents trying to push their clients and the media trying to generate traffic when there is little concrete news available.

But we can't just ignore all rumours as some will be have more substance than others, so I have to try and troll though Saints rumours and try to see which ones might actually have a chance of happening.

That is sometimes not easy, but we all know the positions that Saints are looking at and the type of player they look to sign and this one fits that bill.

The man in question is Reims defender Axel Disasi.

A few days ago some media outlets were suggesting that he was the man that Arsenal were looking to sign, but now the headlines are changing and several are now saying that Saints are winning the race to sign him and indeed are"confident" of doing so.

Disasi has just turned 22 and at 6ft 3 is described as a right footed central defender who can also play at right back.

He is French born of Congolese descent and his agent is described as relatives.

He signed for Reims in 2017 and his contract runs out next summer so it looks like the player himself is keen for a big move and therefore will be available at a decent price.

That price is said to be around £13 million.

In his first season at the club Reims were in Ligue 2 and he was a fringe player in the squad that won promotion, in his second season with the club in Ligue 1 he struggled to get game time, but was a virtual ever present as an unused sub.

But this season he made the breakthrough and has played in just about every game up to the suspension of football.

On the face of it he looks a reasonable punt for Saints, but there is the fact that he has actually played so little football, only 31 games in Ligue 1 in France and 3 caps for the French U20 side.

So from this respect he is a little untried, that might suggest that this rumour at least at this price is a little speculative, someone is trying to push up the value by linking clubs to him and that suggests that Reims themselves are resigned to losing the player and therefore their representatives are pushing this one.
