Southampton FC In Lockdown

On 3rd May 1976 I was at the Dell for Mike Channon's testimonial and 44 years later I was back on the same spot as well as a visit to St Mary's.

Like many in lockdown I have been looking at ways to exercise and luckily for me I had bought a bike just before restrictions began so I have been using that in the past six weeks or so.

On Sunday I decided to go for a ride into Southampton and to St Mary's Stadium as it struck me that since construction began I had never gone what is now almost two months without seeing St Mary's, and that I would take a picture of the stadium.

Whilst sat there I thought of the article on Mike Channon's tesimonial game I had just posted on this website before I left about that game taking place on this very day 44 years ago, so then decided to head for the Dell to take another pic.

It was weird to stand on the very spots I had been exactly 44 years ago and look at the changes that had since taken place and reflect on how much the World had changed, if the first 43 years and 10 months after 3rd May 1976 had seen changes, perhaps the last two months have seen even more.

I hope you enjoy them as a reminder of these troubled times when the World stopped turning.
