Matt Le Tissier Cut Out To Support Pompey

A Pompey fan has enlisted Matthew Le Tissier to aid Pompey's play off hopes from League One on Friday evening by commissioning a cardboard cut out of the Saints legend to watch their game against Oxford United.

A cardboard cutout of Mathew Le Tissier will be in the crowd for the Oxford United play-off semi-final and the club have gone one step further by putting a Pompey shirt on the player.

Pompey fan Daz O'Leary has taken credit for the cutout on Twitter, saying he asked the club to put a shirt on the Le Tissier cutout.

He said: ""I sent Pompey an email requesting he wear a Pompey shirt or scarf. My brother and me did another one.

"Ricky Lambert and Jamie Redknapp were the other two [ideas]. Had to be Matt as that particular picture cracked me up. It's all for banter and the money goes back in the club."

The club gave the player a shoutout on Twitter, taking a picture of the cutout in the stands. After a tweet showing a time lapse video of the cardboard fans being set up in the stadium, the club shared the picture and said:

"Many thanks for your support, @mattletiss7! Don’t worry, we sorted you out with a shirt."

Portsmouth have offered fans the chance to buy their own cardboard cutouts to sit in the crowd with the game set to be played behind closed doors.

The cutouts are still available for fans to buy, but they have to be purchased by midnight tonight. The club announced that as of June 30 850 cardboard fans have been sold at £25 each, with the profits being pumped back into the academy.

Personally I find this funny, Le Tiss is famous for his twitter "banter" about Liverpool and their fans and now he finds himself on the receiving end, I'm sure he can take this in the spirit of things as he joins the Blue Few for this vital game.

There are rumours that cardboard cut outs of Portsmouth legends were in the stands at St Mary's for the recent game against Arsenal, but nobody recognised them.

A recent survey revealed that the UK public's most popular answers when asked to identify three people they most identified with Portsmouth Football Club were.
