Angus Gunn In Potential Swap Deal With Stoke City
Latest media reports suggest that Saints goalkeeper Angus Gunn could be joining Stoke City on loan in a swap deal that would see a player move in the opposite direction to St Mary's
Stoke City and Southampton are in ‘talks’ over a potential swap deal for Jack Butland and Angus Gunn, according to media reports
Gunn, who at 24 years old is still young in goalkeeping terms, could be allowed to leave Whilst Butland still only 27 has been in need of a fresh start for a while so this arrangement would suit both parties.
Gunn is currently 3rd in the pecking order and needs to go out on loan to somewhere that he could be in with a chance of first team football.
Alex McCarthy is the current number 1 at St Mary's but he has not been convincing in the opening matches of the season, whilst Fraser Forster although having had a good season at Celtic is still untested back in the Premier League.
Saints would see Butland as an experienced keeper who had great potential and has gone stale at Stoke and is now number two to Adam Davies
Certainly Butland could be a better option than any of the three keepers on Saints books at the moment, but there could be a fly n the ointment as Liverpool may be in the market for an upgrade on Adrian who again was abysmal in their 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa last night, the Stoke keeper might be seen as a good short term option whislt Adrian is injured, but also a more than capable back up.
