Can Saints Survive Sunday In Top Spot

Going top on Friday evening was a great moment for Saints fans and it was a bonus that they survived Saturday still heading the Premier League, but what are the chances of us still being in pole position during the International break, here we take a look.

There are four teams who could possibly overtake Saints this afternoon, but the first game up with a noon kick off is perhaps the most likely to see us knocked off our perch, Tottenham Hotspur travel to West Bromwich Albion and as we know the Baggies are in the bottom three.

This may be a help for us, hopefully they will fight for their lives, Spurs are on 14 points so a draw will not be enough for them to go top, it is "Come on you Baggies" in Southampton today.

If West Brom do us a quick favour then then next contenders are up at 2pm both Leicester & Wolves could potentially end the game top of the league and they meet at the King Power Stadium at 2pm,

Leicester are on 15 points and with a superior goal difference than us, a point will be enough to leap above us by that stat, a win would send them two points clear, Wolves themselves could top the division, but they would need to beat Leicester by 5 clear goals,

Finally is the big game of the day at 4.30pm, Manchester City host Liverpool, the home side cannot go top but will be looking to start pushing up the table soon, Liverpool start the day level on points with us, a draw or a win will be enough to jump above us, but they will be looking beyond that and a win that will see them back on top whatever happens elsewhere.

So for Saints only a Liverpool defeat will be enough to keep them below us, most Saints supporters will have no problem roaring Manchester City on, but will the result still matter by 4.30pm ?

Staying top over the International break would be a nice end to a great month or so for Saints, but if we drop down from the pinnacle, then whatever spot we will end in should be celebrated, it can be no lower than 4th and I feel that I can say without contradiction that there isn't a Saints fan out there who at the start of the season ,would not have been delighted if told we would occupy that spot after 8 games played.
