Southampton Looking At Nottingham Forest Central Defender

Saints would say they have robbed the rich in selling Jannik Vestergaard to Forest's East Midland rivals Leicester City, now they are set to pay the poor of Nottingham with a bid for a member of Chris Hughton's merry men.

Latest media sources in the Midland's suggest that Saints are weighing up a move for Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall.

The 24 year old has racked up 129 appearances for Forest in the Championship and has also played for Dagenham & Redbridge on loan and also Rangers in the Scottish Premiership with whom he played 22 games in 2018/19 season as well as other games in the Europa League.

At 6ft 4 inches Worrall is commanding in the air and has been credited with has also been credited with interest from a clutch of Premier League rivals including Brentford, Burnley, Norwich City and Crystal Palace.

Now he is linked with Saints although the problem is he has missed the start of this season with a calf injury that will keep him out for a week or two yet, meaning that if we did get him he would be unlikely to be in contention until the West Ham game on September 11th.

Although not quite the profile that we need in that we are badly lacking a central defender with Premier League experience and leadership qualities that doesn't mean that we can't also go for Worrall who could be a good acquisition for around £7.5 -10 million depending on which story you believe.

Some would see this as a lack of ambition by the club but in recent years the Championship has produced several quality central defenders not least the likes of Ben White & Adam Webster as well as Tyrone Mings.
