Saints In Advanced Talks For Shakhtar Donetsk Winger
With the war in Ukraine disrupting football in the country, several of the foreign players in the Country are said to be discussing move away, one of those is said to be in advanced talks with Southampton.
The player in question is Shakhtar Donetsk's Mateus Cardoso Lemos Martins more commonly known as Tete.
The 22 year old Brazilian winger has been at Shakhtar since February 2019 and has made 75 appearances for then in the Ukrainian Premier League scoring 25 goals, has has also played in the Champions League, the highlight being when he scored the opening goal and provided one assist in Shakhtar's memorable 3—2 victory away to Real Madrid in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in October 2020.
Saints are said to be in advanced talks with the player who has also attracted interest from Leicester City & Brentford in England as well as offers on the table from AC Milan, Atalanta and Benfica.
If he did agree a transfer then he would be unable to play for any club until next season despite the fact that he is unable to play for Shakhtar due to the suspension of the Ukrainian Premier league for the foreseeable future.
