Southampton Looking To France For Central Defensive Option

With Jack Stephens & Jan Bednarek likely to be going through the out door whether on loan or a permanent deal by the end of the transfer window on Thursday, Saints are now talking to Stade Rennais FC in Ligue 1 in France about a central defender.

According to French daily Le Parisien, southampton have been in contact with Stade Rennais to explore the possibility of signing 22-year-old defender Loic Bade.

Sources claim that the 22 year old centre back has been scouted and approved by the club’s recruitment team and now the wheels have been put in motion to see if Stade Rennais can be persuaded to part with him.

They signed him only last year from Lens for a fee of £10 million, he was not a regular starter last season for the French side, he started just 11 games plus another 3 from the bench and the rest of the time he was either an unused sub or at the tail end of the season injured. This season he has started just 1 game with the other 4 on the bench.

Two years ago he was a regular starter for Lens and has played approaching 50 Ligue 1 games in his career total.

But Saints have seen enough of him to feel that he can play in the Premier League and now are said to have put in an offer to take him on a year's loan with an option to buy.

It seems that there is going to be a lot going on at Southampton Football Club in the next 24 hours or so, with the possibility of around 4-5 players leaving and perhaps 2 or 3 arriving.
