Next best thing

In the absence of making any significant signings, one supposes that the public declaration that one of our better players want's to STAY is the next best thing!

We've all heard the saying that sometimes keeping a player is as good as signing a new one? No!? oh well Neil Kilkenny today revealed he is in for the long-haul....well the next two years at least.

The whites' midfielder is contracted until 2011 and the Australian today dismissed speculation linking him with Doncaster Rovers.

It is understood that Rovers tried to buy him in the summer, but Leeds would not budge. Its academic according to comments made by Kilkenny to leedsunited.com today.

He said: "I'm settled here, it's a good club and it's nice to be a part of the manager's plans.

"I came here because it's a big club and I want to do well here and hope I have a part to play in getting us promoted.

"If we can get into the next division this club can really take off again and I really want to be a part of that."

Kilkenny returned strongly to the Leeds side late last season, having been on the side lines for the early part. He is a reasonable player, well worth the £150,000 Leeds paid for him from Birmingham. Lets hope the powers-that-be listen to his words and reject any improved offers from Doncaster or elsewhere.
