Just looked and we next play on Sat 30th. Is this right as it’s nearly 3 weeks away? Assume it’s fa cup and internationals if it is correct. Football scheduling over the past few years has been very stop start, perhaps we should try harder to stay in the cups a bit longer.

Poll: What age is too old for a striker?

It's especially weird when you consider that that over a similar time period over Christmas & New Year we had five or six matches. I accept that if you get knocked out of the cup early it's pot luck if your fixtures on subsequent cup weekends then get cancelled, but it surely doesn't help having a cup weekend next to an international break. And why do the Champions League last 16 matches take so long to get completed? That takes several weeks out of the calendar when league fixtures could be played or rescheduled. In the old days when clubs relied on gate receipts to get them by from week to week, some would struggle to pay their players if they didn't have a home game for three or four weeks.

I made a point about using full strength line ups for Cup Matches back before the 3rd round, citing the amount of games we'd have if we did get through to be played in late Jan, Feb and March. Players need match fitness not 2 or 3 weeks between games. By the time we play Brighton we will have only played 11 games in 84 days!!

Ah well, at least it gives Danny Ings time to recover before his next injury.
