Do you know what, I actually respect (respect not like!) their supporters for supporting their local team, especially as they are rubbish. Of course I don't like them and loved beating them the other night. But just like our true fans and those of plenty of other clubs, at least they are passionate about their local club and are true fans. They have to be proper fans to support such cr@p. But that I applaud. I think I hate the "glory hunters" of Liverpool and Man u more who sit in their arm chairs every week and put on their top four shirt thinking they are clever. Don't like Portsmouth, but their fans can't help being born in such a place can they!

Can see your point of view, pity they are so obsessed, had to laugh at all their fan vlogs on you tube, they seem to be more about hating Saints than supporting Pompey

Yeah, they are definitely obsessed. But they have been in our shadow for years and they know Southampton are miles above them at the moment. That's probably why are they are so obsessed, which again as a proper fan that sticks with my team through thick and thin, I understand their emotions - well sort of!

You've got to admire their players lap of (dis) honour after getting smashed by four, and many of their fans staying till the end for the Sky cameras, when for a normal L1 game they'd have been booing during the second half with a half empty stadium after 80 min.

Their memories of trophy wins 70 years back is incredible, I'm 58 and have a job to remember what I had for lunch today.

They are loyal, although 15k average at best in my lifetime, is well short of our loyal, considering similar populations

Carrying those chips on their shoulder for most of their lifetimes with us being better than them for years seems to weigh a bit heavy.

Their fans are absolutely vile and they have an enormous amount of self importance not about their team but about themselves . Why would any Saints fan like them or have an affection for them ? They have been more or less irrelevant compared to Saints in footballing terms ,in the last 50 odd years and deep down most of their fans know this but of course would never admit it. That is why they are more interested in hating us rather than supporting their team.

'More interested', and yet so many of their fans stayed behind and supported the team after the beating the other night. You have just contradicted yourself.

'So vile', and yet some of their fans even had a thread about your situation the other day. Another contradiction. Did you say thank you?

irrelevant, but in terms of achievement, the colour is definitely blue this century.

The 10 year super mong thread on Saints Lounge suggests the obsession is more red to blue than vice versa.

Winning the paint pot and DIv3 hardly puts you up there with Barcelona. Not bad though for club that was only formed 7years ago.

I think winning the Championship and the FA cup in the last number of years certainly eclipses what your club has achieved over it's entire history.

And for your reference, you lot won the Paint Pot whereas Pompey won the Checkatrade Trophy

I think the previous poster is inferring that the club who won the Championship and the FA Cup is not the same as the club now, due to the insolvency of the previous administration who flouted the rules both financially and in other ways, remember when you played a player against us in the cup who subsequently turned out to be ineligible to play and had to go back to his parent club.

John Westwoods act of defiance last week was impressive in its loudness for a while, but this wasn't support for your team it was just defiance and a determination not to give Saints any credit, also it was an act to keep Saints supporters in the ground as it could not be cleared till the last Pompey supporter had gone, we didn't mind it was raining outside so we werent going anywhere anyway.

Google Pompey V Saints on you tube and you get endless vlogs of the evening, al concerned with singing songs about scummers and trying to attack those Saints fans on the train.

Your fan base seems to glorify the use of violence in this.

As for checkatrade, I bet the Pompey players who won the FA Cup for you and then found themselves not being paid a year or two later wished they had used Checkatrade to find out of you were a reputable company in the football clubs section, I suspect the ratings from those who have given reviews won't be very good these days

Not glorifying any violence on these pages then?

"Fair play to the lone saints fan who weaved through the first two horses and waded in while we were escorted from the station, he took out a few Pompey gimps who were hiding behind the OB & railings.
24 seconds on the video "

https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/forum/247399/page:2

I know it's difficult but: same fans, same ground, same songs, a lot of the same players. Most sane people all around the country would agree it's the same club. And strangely, when you look at any honours list from any website up and down the country, they all view all the trophies as belonging to the same club.

Well done for singing a bit the other night. Not as loud as Pompey agreed, but not bad for Soton.

Because one person on a message board glorifies violence it doesn't mean that the whole site does, I am talking about various video vlogs on you tube all basically doing the same, showing footage of trouble on Goldsmith Avenue although most of the footage seemed to be just of Pompey fans swearing and singing about "Scummers" and what they were going to do to them

So 130 where do you stand on it all, do you totally condemn the fact that hundreds if not a couple of thousand Pompey fans went to Goldsmith Avenue with the sole aim being to try and attack or intimidate Saints fans behind a police escort, with no real regard that some of those fans could have been women and children.

Is tis just good old fashioned football as it used to be or just thuggery

I really don't understand this hate thing.
How can you hate and want to injure someone you've never seen before just because they support another team?
I saw one older Pompey fan interviewed before the game who said he could remember Saints and Pompey fans stood watching a game next to each other..

We're both crap.
At the moment , and for most of the past 50 years of living memory, they're more crap than us.
They've won more than us during that time though.

Unpopular point of view I know.

Funny thread. As stated before stood side by side with Soton lads on a proper front line and would do again. Goldsmith Avenue was not a nice place that night and the so called escort had a larger contingent of hooded and scarved idjuts with a smaller group of normal fans. Good job police were there IMO. Perhaps a few coaches should of been provided to embark the idjuts with a quick trip up to Brize Norton to board a hercy bird out to an area they can fight for real that's of course they are up for it. On the football club front you may have been top flight for 50 years ish but what apart from 76 have have you really achieved which outshines Pompey? I think once you take the arrogance heads off you want to play us regularly as it has to beat Bornmuff and Brayton for that adrenalin rush.....

An atmosphere built on consistent ner ner ners, bell ringer dressed as a clown and with so much hate for a clubs fans just up the road. Our fans are second to none on their day and to hear a so called fan say we don’t have the passion of Pompey is ridiculous. Saints fans have at times been excellent. Brighton away behind the goal of which there are YouTube clips from Brighton fans. Coventry at home was electric as was Liverpool away in the cup. Our fans were also great too at Fratton the other night. We have on many occasions created "a a great atmosphere", especially in comparison to other Premier league clubs. Arsenal, Everton, Man U, Brighton amongst others are completely silent during a meaningless bore game. But the poster above has a point - Fratton Park is a vociferous couldron of noise when it wants to be - no we cant deny it. The fans in the Chapel don't get anywhere near the level of vociferous support we saw at Fratton the other night.

But let's be honest if pompey built a new ground and were in th PL, they would attract a set of richer tourist plastic type fans who would bring an end to the atmosphere they have now. It has happened at all PL grounds. The atmosphere at some championship grounds and league one were a lot louder and passionate than most PL grounds.
