Those figures have long since been discredited. The police have got better things to do.

You can imagine what happened: "Here, Bert, we've got some wally here who wants some attendance numbers under the freedom of information act. Can you make something up for him so we can get rid of him?"

Any football club that over-reported the number of tickets sold for their games would be mad as they'd have to pay more tax.

These portsmyths are almost as laughable as the Greater Portsmouth conurbation one. If he lived in this country, he'd be able to drive to Portsmouth from either Fareham or Havant and see that it's surrounded by sea and marshland.

If they ever reclaimed Farlington marshes or built bridges across to Gosport or Hayling Island, they might be able to develop a Greater Portsmouth one day in the future but, with sea levels rising, that seems very unlikely. Instead, the relentless development of any remaining green areas between Southampton and Fareham is going to create an even bigger Southampton conurbation.

“Those figures have long since been discredited. The police have got better things to do”.

So, how did they discredit the figures if they have got better things to do? The fact that the numbers exists means that they would have counted the numbers. Yes, some counts would have been more accurate than other, but aside from man City; Soton were the worst performing club in the country in terms of disparity; which means that several thousand fans were missing.

The fact that the numbers were so low is astounding, considering that they would have been carried out by Policemen/ women from the Soton area. Most of the men would have been trying to hide the figures, because people from Soton are obsessed with attendances. Therefore we know the low numbers have true meaning.

“Any football club that over-reported the number of tickets sold for their games would be mad as they'd have to pay more tax.”

Most of the non-attendees would have been STH’s, therefore there is absolutely no affect on tax. Most people buying a ticket for the game would Have turned up for the game.

“If they ever reclaimed Farlington marshes”

Farlington marshes is ALREADY an area of reclaimed land. It was reclaimed in the late 18th century. It is one of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s oldest nature reserves, and sees an incredibly high number of migratory birds, especially in Winter. Why would they put houses on this important site?

What i find amusing is the excuse that our attendances are manipulated up and some odd police attendance report proves. I remember being at the ground in a crowd of 31000 or so, not an empty seat to be seen, yet the police report said it 26,000 which means that an entire Northam stand would be empty, simply not true. Meanwhile every time Pompey had a small crowd or season of low attendances it was due to a boycott or a dodgy owner falsifying attendances so they could dodge tax. This explains why their attendances are 2.5m lower than ours over the course of our histories,

Police figures are just guesses.

Take a look at this Chelsea game 2 years ago, SFC gave the official attendance as 27, 077, which I don't believe for a minute as you can barely see an empty seat anywhere.
For that figure to be correct, the entire Northam End would have to be empty (5500 short of capacity), and the Old Bill guess would have been around 23,000. Impossible.

Aside from Man City and Saints?
What about The Arsenal ? Gold Medalists for sure, their figures are wrong by more than Little Pompeys top attendance on a good season.

Youre right it's bollox. 5k below capacity is basically an empty northam end, 10k is an empty itchen stand. No way was that the case?

From the late 30s to early 50s their crowds were boosted by the tens of thousands of sailors from all over the country, who were temporarily based there. But, they were mostly fans of other teams and during the 50s, as the numbers of sailors based there declined, so did the attendances at Fratton.and they've never recovered since. The last time they had a 30,000 average was nearly 70 years ago.

Just look at how many of the crowd were sailors in those days:

Who'd have thought it? The reason their gates are smaller than ours is because they prefer basketball.

They are never going to have 20,000 + gates again: that's for sure, as the days when clubs could afford to spend a fortune on new stadiums are well and truly over now.

Got to be looking at around 35 seasons easy, 23's not a big figure is it?

I'll jump in and help here because it's a difficult one!

In that time they've only had 3 seasons of average league gates over 20k!
So the answer must be between Zero and 3.

It's ZERO. Most of the sailors stationed there after the war had gone by then, never to return. If they add another 2,000 to the capacity at Fratton, that should see them comfortably through the next 60 years as they won't need any more than that.

So that's:

Saints 16 Little Pompey 0

Zero! In 60yrs!

That's like 3 generations of the blue few who've never witnessed a season of average league gates over 23k!

I guarantee if you ask any of the blue few that question then over 90% of them won't believe the answer, even when presented with the facts!

It is pretty astonishing I must say
