Talking of interesting stories, Alan Shearer mentioned on MOTD last night one about a time that Chris Nichol gave the players grief in the dressing room after a poor performance. The next day Mark Dennis, his brother and his dad all turned up at The Dell looking for a fight with the manager. |  | | |

This was true, the fans turned on Nichol after that as Denis was a very popular player. I remember as young kid going to a game and fans with pro Dennis banners. He was sold shortly after and Derek Statham came in, who was a good player | |

Can't remember who we lost to that day - possibly Everton ?
Nicholl went round to everyone and called them shit as he pointed to them. When he got to Mark Dennis though, he called him 'w@nker' instead of shit, so obviously took exception to this and attempted to fight him there and then in the dressing room.
....and yes he turned up the next day with his brother and old man and wanted to fight Nicholl again.
Dennis was quality though - probably got a few extra red cards due to his reputation than the actual tackles. I remember us stuffing Newcastle 4-1 in around 86 or 87 and Colin Clarke grabbed the headlines with a hatrick, but Dennis scored a wonderful chip to complete the scoring. | |
