I thought Stephens did the job he was asked to do. He gives his all and ok he may not be the most assured but he has stood in so often in so many ways over the last few seasons when we have needed him. |
He looked like a fish out of water early on and a couple of wayward passes that thankfully didn't come to anything, can't have helped his confidence, but he was in a alien position and grew into it well, as the game progressed.
Of course everything was on his right foot, but then it would have been had JWP or KWP played there.
Djenepo was perhaps told to hang back a bit to help out defensively, but it worked for this game and Bert (and Vokins) now has time to recover.
The defence in general did well and with the help from midfield, restricted Newcastle to just a few chances.
