Ings has turned down a 4-year deal. He's off... 09:57 - Jul 5 with 7706 viewsblambo

Danny Ings turns down new 4y contract at Southampton. Deal would’ve made him best-paid player in #SaintsFC history but 28yo wants to test himself at higher level. Club must decide whether to sell this summer or lose for free in 2022

We are talking about Danny Ings going to play for Brentford. Get real. It isn’t going to happen unless Brentford are suddenly contenders to win the EPL and play in the Champions League. By your logic every player in the Premier league should be playing in China because they would earn more there.

If Brentford were taken over, paid huge amounts for players and had a chance of winning things he would want go there. What a stupid example and discussion. Brentford won't win anything and pay little in wages so ofcourse he wouldn't want to go there. He might consider it if they paid loads in wages, in which case they would be able to afford other good players and therefore might win things. It goes hand in hand. The clubs paying big wages have a better chance of winning things. But why an earth would anyone want to go to China to play in unknown leagues? You know the answer
How many top players went to Little Pompey a few years ago? Sol Campbell, Merson, Lua Lua, Kanu, distin and the rest. They got paid a huge amount before the club went bankrupt, that's why.

It’s not a stupid example at all. Ings wouldn’t play for Brentford for more money so that shows that money isn’t the only consideration.

How do you know he wouldn't play for Brentford if they offered to triple his wages?

Because if he wanted a ton of money there are plenty of other places he could go and earn a fortune playing for relatively poor teams in relatively poor leagues. Tell you what, this is a pointless discussion until he goes. Let’s see where he ends up and then we can talk about why he went there, ok?

Like all those stars who went to Pompey in 2007 / 08? You don't get much worse team to play for than them. But they paid them a lot! But ofcourse if he can earn a fortune, as well as playing for one of the very top clubs, he would obviously make that choice. It wasn't me who mentioned Brentford in the first place - couldn't agree more, it's a pointless discussion. Brentford won't win anything and won't pay high wages, so as I said totally silly thing to discuss. Indeed, let's see where he ends up. If the choice is West Ham, Everton, Spurs, Villa or Saints, like 99% of others (Koeman, Fonte, Spider) it will come down to who pays the most. If one of the very top clubs want him, they would pay the most and he would win things, so ofcourse his decision would be easy in that case.

Adam Blackmore yesterday was saying that Ings hasn't turned down any contract at this stage and isn't going to force a move.

Some of our fans seem to pushing him out of the door already and they haven't even had the 'leaks' we used to get from Old Les that he is greedy, Billy big bollocks and the rest of the players will be glad to see the back of him.

But, I suppose it is understandable as he has committed the cardinal error of not smiling enough.

I wonder if the rumour that he has rejected a contract offer came from someone inside the club? That, and the fact they have already put in a bid for a Blackburn striker, may indicate that they really want to sell Ings but they'd rather the fans blamed Ings for it. That's the way Old Les used to operate.

Well I could understand that if Ings was going for 40/50/60 million... but he's likely to go for around what the lad from Blackburn will cost (with maybe enough change to purchase a hot dog, a beer, and a padded seat in the Kingsland).

They've bid £10 million for Armstrong. My guess is they're planning on making £5-10 million more from the sale of Ings than they pay for Armstrong and a few million more in the reduction in wage bill. The profit from that would cover the cost of Perraud too.

The story up today on the home page covers the situation, Saints will balance up any offers, and the player has told them what clubs he would and would not go to, but Saints will not sell cheaply, Ings goals could move us up 5 places and that is about £11 million in prize money, so even if he does run the contract out it is still better than accepting £15 million
