World Cup Qatar 15:58 - Jul 25 with 1656 views | Shropsaint | Should the home nation teams boycott the world cup in light of the slavery used to build the stadia at a cost of over 2000 lives and the attitude to gays there?
World Cup Qatar on 16:02 - Jul 25 with 1647 views | Saintsforeverj | Yes, it's disgusting the way they treat gay people, women in some cases and the slaves who have died. We should boycott. Rediculous place to have it. And if it does go ahead, gay people must go there en masse, holding hands. [Post edited 25 Jul 2021 16:04]

World Cup Qatar on 16:24 - Jul 25 with 1601 views | PatfromPoole | Things got rather more ridiculous over the last 10 days with the rumoured joint bid by Saudi Arabia and Italy for the 2030 World Cup. The recent Euros showed that international football can be the most wonderful form of football, with all-out attacking football played in brilliant atmospheres. Despite the best efforts of the ruling bodies to completely ruin the game.

I wholeheartedly support taking the knee and admire the team and Southgate for continuing it in the name of equality. I can’t square this up with then competing in a country that believes in the total opposite. Would be hypocrisy of the highest order.

As I’ve said before taking the knee not much use. A total boycott is needed.

Not to mention the hundreds of Asian construction workers who’ve died building the new grounds and the thousands of their fellow workers toiling in appalling conditions alongside them. I’m fully expecting Tyrone Mings to refuse to play in solidarity. Likewise Lineker and his ilk. It’s all very well taking the moral high ground when it’s relatively easy as in Euro 2020; let’s see how many make a stand about Qatar…

That’s my take on it. It doesn’t sit well at all given all that has previously been said. There are so many countries that would have benefited from hosting this World Cup and would have offered a far better all inclusive tournament. What will be their legacy given the amount of people who have died working in the construction of the stadiums, many of whom have been used as modern day slaves. Shameful stuff. It probably won’t get too much traction in this country until they announce that it will be a no-alcohol tournament.

It was so corrupt how the tournament was awarded to Qatar especially as they have an appalling record on human rights and no real track record in football. If the authorities had any bottle they would have turned round and withdrawn the tournament from them. But I suspect that we will all watch it
