I was at Wembley. The Hungarian fans were an odd mix. I guess most of them are residents here. There was that group of 'ultras' but a lot of their fans were family groups.There were also some beautfiul young women dressed to the nines. There were a lot fewer of them than at the last game in 2010 when there was no trouble at all and the atmosphere was very friendly.
If the stewards and police with batons hadn't waded into them because one fan supposedly said something racist, there wouldn't have been any trouble. It was that over the top reaction which intitated it. There were plenty of England fans around me shouting every insult under the sun at the Hungarian players and the stewards never took a blind bit of notice.
One thing I've noticed at recent England games is that the stewards and police are not very good at their jobs, which might even result in crowds being banned from future England games. The Met police are building a terrible reputation for being prejudiced and incompetent. I guess recruiting good people for those jobs is not easy. [Post edited 14 Oct 2021 21:25]

The police were pathetic there. When we came out of the San Siro did anyone clock the Italian plod riot squad in big numbers waiting for us? They looked like they were itching to get stuck in - but had no need as the behaviour of our fans in Milan was excellent as far as I could see.
If it wasn’t for Boris and that wretched Brexit, Cressida could have sub contracted Wembley policing to the Carabinieri and those Magyar bastards would have been picking spirelli out of their fascist arses for the next 6 months….! |  |

The police take orders from their superiors hence my point. If they had been ordered in to deal with the crowd trouble and had just run away, doyou think the person in charge wouldn’t have been hauled up in front of superior officers and asked to explain what happened? Exactly. If the purpose was to go in and arrest the person who had racially abused the steward, why hang about in an already inflamed situation when you have achieved your objective? It makes perfect sense to withdraw if the job has been done. | | | |
