Not enough space? 12:59 - Oct 7 with 3096 viewssaint901

First post here so please be gentle.

I'm a season ticket holder but for various reasons have seen only two matches so far, Man U and Wolves.

A couple of observations.

Against Man U, we seemed focused and were at full concentration and importantly looked as though we would survive going behind if we had to. Against Wolves, there was no intensity and no prolonged pressure on the goal and all too often the high press was bypassed. I put this down to a lack of focus and concentration. This is something RH jas to sort and quickly.

Tactically, I'm a long way from convinced that KWP neither understands what he is meant to do at left back nor what his football instincts tell him to do.

When we were attacking he was filling the left wing channel and that left Redmond no option but to go inside which is where Wolves outnumbered us. I would have liked to have seen KWP go inside the wing position and leave Redmond outside. Let's face it, WP has no left foot and when he gets the ball wide, he comes inside or hits a poor cross. In turn that leaves Adams and Armstrong uncertain about which position to be in or post to attack. They need to be given good service or no service. Having inconsistent service is hopeless.

Further, when Wolves had the ball, WP went inside toward the centre backs and left the wide man to Redmond. There was no cover in the Wolves inside right position which pulled Redmond inside, giving Wolves and easy out ball to the wide right. If WP had been 10 yards further to the left, he would have stopped that. For me that's a lack of instinct at being a left back. (I hope it's not what he has been told to do.

Just a personal view.

He's clearly never experienced thrill of a VAT dispute.

Vodka and Tonic?

Vodka and Tonic?

Thanks for the comments although I confess I have no ides what the references to biscuits are nor how we ended with Vodka and Tonic.

Perversely my day job is as a tax specialist (enquiries and investigations) so I should know the answer to the VAT questions (but I don't).

Like one of the posters above, I was a right footed, left sided player. I was always coached that my role was either to go wide and pull a defender/midfield player out of the centre or - if I had the ball or could receive the ball, then go inside, leaving the left wing/mid as the outside option.

KWP does neither. He occupies the left wing position but both he and the opposition know that even if he gets the ball, he will come back on his right foot and therefore they have time to close him down.

Even if he does cross with his right foot, it has be much more precise than a let footed cross which will naturally curl away from the keeper.

What you want with a cross is forwards moving towards the goal and defenders/keeper static or having to turn and move. A right footed cross will swing toward the goal and that's just easier for defenders and harder for attackers.

My view here is that RH should consider switching KWP and Tino. We're playing both of them for the attacking options anyway and Tino would, from the left, drive inside and probably have better angles for his natural instinct to shoot. KWP in his natural position would be more effective?

I do agree that the lack of left footed options is a concern and makes us unbalanced and predictable.

Onwards to the weekend though and let's see if our patched up team can get that much needed win.

Ah, a tax specialist. Excellent.

The initiation for new members to the message board is that you advise the throng of your favourite 3 biscuit types.

As oft occurs, we then got a little sidetracked and deviated into the nuances of VAT legislation. I entirely blame Saintwizzler for this. You have to watch him.

What’s the tax thing you speak of?

Biscuits

Chocolate hob nobs (chocolate anything really)
Shortbread
custard creams

The "tax thing" has been around a while - you really should look into it - because if you don't you may find yourself in need of my services.
