Southampton Strike Force Laying The Ghost Of Danny Ings 21st Feb 2022 15:03
When Danny Ings left St Mary's rather hastily for some people's liking back in the summer, it left a sour taste in the mouth, now no ones is mourning the departure of the former local hero and are talking about the future not the past. 7

Not sure have laid the ghost to rest, Ings got his 12 goals in just 26 games. We have no one getting near that rate.
Also you forgot tells and Walcott played up front last season and chipped in with 4 goals.

I think the point is that nobody seems to be bemoaning his absence.

You’re a negative fooker aren’t you?
I’m more worried about the apparent truth that we’ve given our worst ever goalie a new contract.

In a season it doesnt matter how many games it takes a striker to get his goals it is how many he actually gets, Ings missed a few games through injury and that shows the value of having four strikers .

Walcott got 3 Premier League goals from 20 games last season, in the main he was used out wide, playing the occasional game as a striker in an emergency.

"Walcott got 3 Premier League goals from 20 games last season, in the main he was used out wide, playing the occasional game as a striker in an emergency."

Where, in the main, he was as effective as he was as a striker, unconvincing, sadly.

For the first half of the season Walcott wasn't that bad, he had some good games, he is part of a squad now where it isn't just about playing every week and scoring, it is about doing a job when required.

Unfortunately we are never going to be able to have a bench full of current England internationals, but I would rather have Walcott on the bench, that a youngster who to be frank is not going to make it in the Premier League.

We need to appreciate that it is a squad game, yes we have a first XI that virtually picks itself, but then it is baout the options you have from the bench, as Shane Long showed on Saturday it is about doing a job when called upon

I see your logic, but cannot see Walcott as anything other than a passenger now.

It’s weird as when we signed Walcott I thought what on earth have we done that for. To be fair to him I was eating my words with the performances he put in pre Christmas last season. The less said about the whole team post Christmas last season the better.

His role now (whatever it is) should be absolutely no where near the starting line up. He’s been very ineffective the opportunities he’s had this season. No shame in Father Time catching up with you.
